"My husband's hospital stay"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Day Medicine Procedures, Day Stay & Short Stay Fiona Stanley Hospital / Emergency Department Fiona Stanley Hospital / General Surgery Department & Ward 7A & Ward 7B

(as a carer),

Good Afternoon

My husband was recently admitted to Fiona Stanley Hospital and I would like to comment on the care and respect that we both received in Emergency, 7 B, Day admissions Centre and the Short Stay unit.

From the moment we arrived in ED all of the staff were helpful and very friendly. My husband was treated with the utmost respect and given very good care.

We stayed in the Emergency waiting room for quite a few hours and the staff checked on my husband regularly, to give him pain relief and to make sure that he was comfortable.

After being taken in and settled into a bed, the staff were once again all very attentive.

It was a very busy night and I want to say the staff were amazing.

He was then transferred to 7B and again all staff were very attentive and kept us informed about his operation.

Admittedly he was on the list twice and his operation didn't go ahead. In this time we were kept informed and told the reasons.

He was then transferred to The Day Admissions Centre to wait. All staff were once again attentive and friendly. Finally, he went to SSU and was operated on the following morning.

The surgeon also spent time with us to confirm all went well.

I just want everyone to know that we have the highest regard for all of the staff that we encountered at Fiona Stanley Hospital (when I say all staff I mean every staff member that we encountered for the entire 6 days).

Thank you.

Dear handsetkt97,

Thank you ever so much for taking the time to share your and your husband’s positive experience. I am sorry to hear that your husband was so unwell that he required emergency care and treatment, but I am delighted that you were both so happy with the care received from “every staff member encountered”.

I do believe that it takes a special type of person to dedicate their lives to working in a hospital and caring for people who are unwell, and I know that all of our staff do have the best interests of their patients in their hearts. It really is warming to read evidence of this, as in your post.

I have passed on your thanks to staff in the Emergency Department, ward 7B, the Day Admissions Centre and the Short-stay Surgical Unit, which was received gratefully.

I wish your husband all the best for his continuing recovery.

Kind regards,

Dr Paul Mark
