My partner and I signed up for the 2-day face-to-face Positive Birth Program program offered at Bunbury Regional Hospital and recently completed it.
I felt the program beautifully complimented my own philosophy and outlook on life; creating and maintaining a positive outlook where flexibility is key, provides a solid foundation for success.
It provided me with the tools required to ensure my birth experience is one where I feel empowered, calm and in control - no matter what happens.
After hearing so much negativity about birth from friends, family, colleagues and strangers for the past few months, I was beginning to develop fears and second guess myself. This program redirected me back on to a positive path and I regained the confidence in myself I thought I might have lost.
While I am a first-time mum, my partner already has two children from a previous marriage and had done antenatal classes over 10 years ago. Prior to the sessions, he wasn’t too optimistic that he would learn anything new. Boy, was he wrong! The program really caters for the support partner - in whichever shape and size that may be - and my baby daddy left revitalised, excited and with new knowledge of how important his role is now and will be when our little one arrives.
We found ourselves pumped at the end of the two days - really excited, fears gone, and ready to tackle anything that happens over the next few weeks before our bub arrives. The program exceeded my expectations (which I must admit, were pretty high) and would highly recommend it for new parents.
As a teacher, I can be a little critical of facilitators and speakers at these types of sessions. However, Kasey was hands down one of the best presenters I have had the pleasure of listening to - both in and out of an educational setting. She was authentic, passionate and very approachable. No question was off-limits. She added in humour where necessary and spoke straight and to the point when needed. I really appreciated how she used a variety of stimulus to keep us on our toes - PowerPoint slides, birth videos, relaxation and visualisation techniques and demonstrations along with breaks at the right times. She was so in touch with us as a group and delivered according to our needs so a big thank you to you, Kasey.
Thank you to Bunbury Regional Hospital for supporting such an important, relevant and engaging program.
