Over a week ago on the long weekend, I went for a walk and got bitten by a dog, 3 inches below my inner thigh and had broken the skin so I was bleeding on both legs. I immediately went up to A & E. Now I didn’t know when my last tetanus shot was. Nurses Elvira and Kirsten were on duty and I had brilliant care from them. They cleaned me up and explained to me what was happening, and got the telehealth doctor on the phone to have a look. Kirsten gave me the injection. Elvira dressed my wound. They said I might need antibiotics being it was a dog bite. Now it was a very busy morning at A&E that day and I was there all morning, from 9am – 12pm. I did see the Telehealth Doctor and he explained he didn’t think I needed antibiotics but he didn’t know I was a type 1 diabetic. I believe the nurses told him but he was too busy and had forgotten.
Because I can’t have heavy-duty bandages due to allergies, the nurses and I had a bit of fun as it kept falling off. They were very good but it wasn’t just them. I have to keep going back every second day to get the dressing looked at and the staff are marvellous every time and from my observations, they handled every patient so well. I have to see my doctor the next day and they said I need antibiotics so they put me on antibiotics.
I have to continue to get my dressings changed and all of the staff were absolutely caring and made to feel at ease. There are normally only two nurses looking after me but sometimes another one comes in and gives a third opinion which is also great. They really looked after me and I just want to give credit where it’s due, from the front desk staff to the back.
"The wonderful treatment I received from staff"
