I have been trying to get in to see the Gynaecologist since late 2020. It is now March 2021, I have now had 3 appointments, all have been cancelled on me (one cancelled a couple hours before I was due to go in). Then I made my 4th appointment.
Each time these appointments are made/cancelled I need to:
1. Re-arrange my working schedule and/or days (my job is reliant on advertising deadlines - which can cost a lot of money if not met), I work for a non for profit as well as freelance.
2. Organise pick up's (or back up pick up's in case appointments run late) from primary school/day care (currently my kids are in between 1 day care in South, 1 day care in Port and 1 school).
3. And organise with my partner who works, as we only have 1 car currently.
These things may sound small but wack them all together on top of a 40-hour working week and pop another 10hrs in for study and it quickly turns out to be a juggling act!
Recently, my 4th appointment, I waited just short of 2 hours to see the doctor, that day I was meant to be at work in Port, so 2 hours late + 40min travel time + 20min consultation.
Unfortunately, I believe this story is way too common up here in Hedland. I feel people are missing out on health necessities. I myself do not go to a doctor unless I have to, because of the 'f' around it is. Now, I need to make another appointment to see the specialist (in 6 weeks time - unless of course this is cancelled and re-scheduled) so I can see the doctor to only make another appointment to get a damn procedure that is the only thing that can confirm my medical worries.
Please, I feel I can not be the only person reading this scratching their head? Surely?
A shout out though to the admin staff at the front desk. They were very understanding and apologetic to me, and I am sure they have to deal with a lot of BS in my opinion.
