On holiday at last from a year of lockdown in Melbourne in sunny Port Douglas. Managed to slice my finger while cutting a roll & severed a nerve & 2 tendons. Initially seen at Mossman Hospital then referred to Cairns Hospital Patient Transit the next day.
I was feeling anxious & dismayed when told I may need to lose 4 days of my week’s holiday coming back & forth to see specialist, schedule surgery, etc.
Every member of staff I met was so friendly, cheery & kind. They were able to get me seen by Doctors & have surgery done that day.
The Transit staff & nurses, X-ray staff, orderlies, theatre staff & Surgeon Alex were all incredibly warm & reassuring.
My anxiety was allayed. A lovely nurse kept me distracted & informed me all through the procedure.
Nurse Bonnie in post-op & Darren the hand therapist were fabulous & took time to explain things despite being very busy.
I just had my follow up appointment today with Jo at the hand clinic who was also caring & compassionate.
Congratulations Cairns. This is amazing & comprehensive caring customer service! A surprisingly pleasant experience for an unexpected accident!
