"Having radiotherapy"

About: Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital / Radiation Oncology

(as the patient),

I had radiotherapy for breast cancer over several weeks in 2021, after many months of chemotherapy at Hollywood Hospital.

The standard of care I received during my course of treatment was, I felt, outstanding. I never had to wait more than ten minutes for my treatment, except once when there was an emergency and staff apologised for the delay.

All staff I saw were so professional, friendly and caring and involved me in my treatment every step of the way, patiently repeating or rephrasing anything I didn’t understand and went out of their way to alleviate any embarrassment I felt.

Staff always knew exactly what stage of my treatment I was at and even when different staff were on, they were all aware of any problems that had arisen the previous day and were concerned and caring. Any problems that arose were dealt with promptly and professionally.

I appreciated the streamlined check-in procedure and the supply of clean garments whenever I wanted them. I cannot praise staff highly enough for their professional and caring attitude. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to each and every one of you.

Dear Phoenix52,

Thank you so much for your heartfelt feedback about the outstanding care you received during your radiotherapy treatment with us.

It is wonderful to hear that all the staff who cared for you were fully informed and up-to-date with your treatment plans and that they dealt with any problems that arose promptly and professionally.

Your descriptions of how staff interacted with you to ensure that you were supported to be involved in your treatment highlights the importance of a patient-centred approach.

Thank you also for noting the streamlined check-in procedure and the accessibility of clean garments as this reinforces the value of multi-disciplinary teamwork within a service.

I hope that you are progressing well towards recovery of your health and wellbeing.

Kind regards
