At 38 weeks pregnant I attended the Kalgoorlie Health Campus on Easter Sunday for a pre-scheduled, monitoring CTG. In the middle of my routine checkup, my baby’s heartbeat and movement suddenly and unexpectedly dropped off. The midwife who was attending me, Delveen, quickly escalated the situation and several doctors and other midwives attended. Within minutes of assessing the situation, it was decided I would need an emergency caesarean. I was in total shock, but the team that looked after me and my baby were nothing short of amazing. Huge thank you to Dr Ljiljana, Dr Jim, Dr Kevin, Dr Rafiq and his team, and all the midwives and theatre nurses who were there - you made a stressful situation so much better with your expert care, warmth, and swift decision making. I owe you all a debt of gratitude.
Then, after my beautiful Easter Sunday baby had safely arrived, I had to spend 6 days on the maternity ward, and again I was blown away by the incredible care I received. Despite being short-staffed and incredibly busy over the time period my little guy and I were in hospital, we were always very well looked after and each and every staff member made us feel listened to, attended to, and cherished. Thank you for the advice, the comfort, the reassurance, the motivation, and the support - Bradley, Lisa, Camelia, Les, Delaney, Rochelle, Jackie, Robin, Bree, Lauren, Daz, the Paeds team and the PCA’s who brought me my meals and encouraged me to look after myself - all of you exemplify what quality care looks like and I am incredibly grateful for you. I hope you realise how amazing you are at your jobs and feel appreciated for what you all do! I hope I haven't forgotten anyone, but job well done to the maternity team at Kalgoorlie Health Campus, you are rockstars. xo
