"Covid testing"

About: Cowes Phillip Island Health Hub

Over a one hour wait recently at the Phillip Island health hub recently for a Covid test for my child. I believe sitting outside while having to wait in line in very cold conditions was not good for their health or the other older people waiting. It seems very few people were tested during the new testing time window of 2 hours, under 10 I would estimate. In the almost 1.5 hours we were there I believe I saw 5 tests carried out. How will the capacity be there if there is an outbreak or a greater need for testing?

Thanks for taking the time to feedback. I thought we had changed the waiting arrangements so people didn't have to line up in the cold but I will make sure to review that next week. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

Rest assured that if we need to ramp up, we can, have and will. We have a process in place to bring in more staff and open up more swabbing bays. We have done in excess of 90 swabs at the Hub in peak times.

In the interim, however, whilst the demand is low, we are making sure we use our precious resources appropriately. The testing times are set up at this particular time at the Hub when we have additional staff but if someone comes into our centre requiring urgent care, such as a Cardiac Arrest, we stop swabbing and attend the patient.

The swabbing tent is available still as a drive-through at Wonthaggi Hospital if that is easier, (and it may be quicker at times) and we also recommend the Wonthaggi Medical Group Respiratory clinic where you can book an online appointment.

I apologise that you experienced a delay. Most importantly, I hope your child is OK and thank you sincerely for being proactive about testing.
