"Excellent care at Kerang Disrict Hospital"

About: Kerang Hospital / Acute Ward

(as the patient),

I was in a really bad way and nearly died. The ambulance took me there and they put me in the special room because of the virus. They had to check but I don’t have the virus. I couldn’t move and was in a really bad way. I didn’t have enough oxygen – it was 30%. My fever was 39.9, my heart was not beating much and my blood pressure was sky-high. All those things were not working properly.

They were ready to ship me by helicopter to Melbourne but the doctor looked at my chart and said no leave it. They put me on IV antibiotics and penicillin. They were doing blood tests every half hour.

After the third day, my blood pressure came down and my fever came down. The doctor reckoned if I looked ok by the afternoon they would let me go. They sent my doctor a report so they found out how I am doing. They gave me a steroid puffer and my oxygen is getting better.

Nurse Tracey and the whole staff were excellent. All the girls constantly looked after me. For 3 days and 3 nights, those nurses looked after me. They’ve done an excellent job. I’m very, very pleased. They saved my life.
