My pre-teen child had hurt their wrist playing football, so we presented to Albany Hospital ED to have it checked. In my opinion, it was clearly very busy, however we were seen quickly and treated with respect, dignity and appropriate concern. I felt, however a clinician chewing gum & showing, I believe, little outward concern for their patients, was a little disappointing!
We were seen by a Junior Doctor, who interacted with my child appropriately, making them feel comfortable and listened to throughout - the junior doctor always made it known to us when they needed to seek advice from the Senior Doctor, however they seemed very capable, especially when treating a child. When the X-ray result showed a buckle fracture, both the Snr Doc & Jnr Doc took the time to show, explain and educate my child on the different types of fractures, which my child found most enjoyable.
The Jnr Doc seemed to take great pride in finding & fitting a suitable splint for my child to wear for three weeks & we left feeling grateful to have been treated so well & for being part of a learning experience!
"ED excellent care"
