"My teenage son's FSH ED and hospital experience."

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Acute Surgical Unit and Trauma Department Fiona Stanley Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

My son presented to ED with significant pain and suspected acute appendicitis. He received a rapid (and accurate) assessment in ED and then, timely admission into the short stay ward. He was promptly proceeded to surgery and had his appendix removed.

We were amazed in hindsight that it hadn't burst! My wife and I felt very supported by the ED and SSSU staff - thank you all for your efforts to keep us informed and confident in your care. Thank you also to the surgical and theatre teams for your care and attention for my son. He left hospital well informed and has since returned to all his normal activities as expected.

I have no qualms about myself or my family returning to access health care at FSH. Thank you for an amazing experience. Keep up the great work!

Dear aprilry83,

I am sorry to read of the pain your teenage son was in caused by his appendicitis recently, but happy to read of the care he received in our emergency department and the surgical and short stay wards.

I am particularly happy to read of the great communication you describe. Improving communication has been a focus across the Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group over the last few months, so positive testimonials such as yours are especially appreciated.

I have forwarded your feedback to the teams involved in your son’s care, with my added personal gratitude.

I wish your son all the very best with his ongoing recovery – glad to hear he has returned to pre-appendicitis health.

Warm regards,

Neil Doverty
