"Lack of support for formula feeding"

About: Leeming Child Health Clinic

(as a service user),

I felt I was shamed by the visiting child health nurse for feeding my week-old baby formula. I was made to feel like I was harming my baby. I was unable to breastfeed and I felt the nurse refused to believe that formula was the best option.

I have put in a written complaint several months ago, and am still waiting to have a response.

Dear outflowjm36,

Thank you for providing feedback about your recent encounter with the Child Health Nurse from the Leeming Child Health Centre.

Please accept my apologies for the experience you describe and the distress this has caused. Compassion, Respect and Equity are three of the Health Services’ core values that staff are expected to act in accordance with and it is regretful that we fell short of these expectations at such a crucial time.

To enable us to look into this matter further, can I please ask you to make contact with our Consumer Engagement Team on 6456 0032 between the hours of 8:30am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday or alternatively please email CAHSFeedback@health.wa.gov.au.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards

Anne-Marie McHugh
