"Birth Story"

About: Albany Health Campus / Maternity Ward

(as the patient),

I wanted to say a huge thank you to the countless people that made the birth of my baby, the amazing experience that it was. I had wanted a natural birth and had been practising hypnobirthing techniques in the early stage of my labour. The midwives were extremely supportive of my wishes and advocated for me wholeheartedly during this stage.

I had such wonderful care from everyone I saw, but I would especially like to mention Suze who was by my side for what felt like forever and helped me feel so calm when things weren't happening as planned. Another special person was Judith who was there for such a long part of my labour, and was a constant smiling and confident face, which helped give me strength!

As things did not seem to be progressing, there were certain interventions that needed to happen that were not part of my birthing plan. The Midwives and Drs addressed these interventions with such kindness, and in such gentle and thoughtful ways, that even though things did not go to plan, I felt 100% support and care in these stages.

When it came to the birth of my baby, I cannot express the gratitude I felt for Dr Carly who was an extremely calm voice in all the chaos. She made me feel completely safe and assisted me to birth a beautiful healthy baby.

When I had to be taken for surgery in the hour after giving birth, I was looked after by Dr James who was extremely kind, gentle and made sure I knew exactly what was happening and why, and went out of his way to help me. I am so very grateful for that!

In the days post-birth, in the newborn baby bliss, the amazing care continued, and I would like to mention Katrina - she gave me advice that helped me and still helps me to this day to feel confident and calm when tending to my baby girl.
