My teenager woke up and couldn't walk. Couldn't put any weight on their legs. So after a quick phone call to the GP, it was off to Emergency at BRH. The dept seemed to be very busy but the volunteer greeted us with a smile whilst we checked in.
In my opinion, our triage nurse was delightful and very thorough. My child identifies as trans and non-binary and this was respected and adhered to throughout our experience with the hospital. I felt the doctor we saw was gentle, respectful and knowledgeable, in fact all of the staff we saw were.
After an overnight and morning in the short stay unit waiting for a bed at another service, we were able to leave and travel up to the other service. It was great as the doctors that we needed to see there already knew we were coming as the doctors in ED had contacted them before our arrival.
With all the negative press recently about BRH, I just wanted to say that, in our experinces, we've always received amazing treatment. After finding out what my child has, which is not super common and can be difficult to diagnose, I was so very grateful to the doctors for their help, expertise and care.
"Wonderful care received"
