"The positive birth program at Geraldton Regional Hospital"

About: Geraldton Hospital / Maternity and Newborn Services

(as a service user),

I wanted to jump in here and just express my gratitude for the implementation and access to this program.

One of my biggest fear falling pregnant was not feeling empowered, having heard so many of the negatives of childbirth through friends and family, it created genuine fears.

I just want to thank Both Kasey and Angela for rolling out this program! It has given me so many tools, mental strength and really empowered me in the informed choices I’m making in regards to the birth of my baby!

Not only that, but my husband, for the first time feels like he really has a role in the birth of our baby! And it’s been so amazing to see him taking notes, becoming informed and really taking on such a positive and strong role throughout our pregnancy!

I really hope, more than anything that this program can be offered statewide! I know so many people living (especially regionally) in WA that I believe would benefit greatly from this program!

Dear woodpeckerqm75,

I apologise for the delay in my response.

Firstly, congratulations on your pregnancy and may I say thank you for taking the time to share your wonderful compliment on Care Opinion. Our Midwives and Maternity staff at Geraldton Hospital do an amazing job by working in partnership with women providing support, care and advice and I will take great pleasure in passing on your kind words, with a very special thank you to Kasey and Angela. It was wonderful to read about the impact the positive birth program has had on your ability to make informed choices and that your husband feels included in your family journey.

The positive birth program is offered online and in-person classes are also now available in Albany, Bunbury and soon Broome. To find out more contact via email WACHSbirtheducation@health.wa.gov.au

Thanks again for taking the time to write, and I hope your motherhood journey is rich and rewarding.

Best wishes

Marie Norris

Director of Nursing and Midwifery
