"2nd Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine"

About: St George Hospital COVID Vaccine Hub

(as the patient),

Had been booked in for a mid-morning appointment. Arrived a little under 2 hours before the appointment (had been working overnight at another hospital in a nursing capacity so came ASAP to my appt), and was told by the security personnel that the Pfizer vaccine wasn’t available until one and a half hours after my appointment time, even though I had an appt card specifying my appointment time (mid-morning) and date.

Asked to speak to a member of the vaccination team but was told that no one was available and that I would have to wait until the afternoon for my vaccine.

Due to current restrictions, I was told that I could not wait inside and could only wait in the outside ‘veranda’ until that time. Had to sit in the cold for 3.5 hours!

Arrived back at the hub entrance 20 minutes before the time advised by the security personnel and waited in line until the vaccination team arrived to book in patients, 5 minutes late.

Informed the manager (who has refused to give me their name) that I had been given an appt for mid-morning and had been waiting for 3.5 hours, and enquired what had happened with the mix-up. The nurse replied that I didn't have to arrive as early as I had. No apology was offered for the error in appt scheduling and when I asked for this person's name to report to my manager, they refused.

Was asked by the team to book in using an online system which I believe was not working for most patients in the line. Was then told to just go upstairs and book in there. What I felt was chaos in the booking in line was unbelievable due to, in my opinion, the lack of organisation and structure in informing people what needed to happen next.

Had to explain the entire situation again to the administration officer who was booking me in for my vaccine, who said it was just a glitch in the system.

Informed the RN administering the vaccine of the issues I had experienced and was told to not shoot the messenger!

All in all, an absolutely abhorrent experience that I believe never should have occurred if the correct systems were in place to organise the vaccination programme!
