"My second birth with hypno birthing"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

We took the online hypnobirthing class through the WA Country Health Services Bunbury.

We welcomed a little boy, back in March. He arrived two weeks early. I had a two bleeds 24hrs apart and ended up getting induced. But incredibly I was already at 2cm and my cervix had thinned 50%. I was induced at 9:20am and my baby arrived at 11:44am. Active labour of 54minutes! 😳🤭 no pain relief (I got to that turning point and asked for an epidural, but it was way too late for that 😂) no damage or tears! I had been having mild contractions on and off for about three days, but just breathed through them.

We used a TENS machine, which was amazing. I was so much more calm and relaxed going in to the experience. We did the hypnobirthing class back when I think I was only 32wks so we had a lot of time to do the meditation sessions and practice a lot of massage. Looking back it was great! But once baby arrived so quickly, I went into a little shock. I hadn’t really prepared myself for that. With our first, we went through a 19hr active labour.

I also didn’t give myself enough time in the lead up for my baby’s arrival to prepare myself for the major changes a new baby would do to our family. If that makes sense? Because we were so concentrated on having a better birth, but I guess we didn’t give ourselves more time to register what happens afterwards, like that days in hospital then coming home.

Based on my experience, I highly recommend the hypnobirthing course to anyone! It helped so much for my husband. He was the one I was more worried about going through labour than me. I believe it definitely gave him the tools and the confidence he needed to be a birth partner. I wish we did it the first time around.

Congrats on the birth of your baby, likeablewt49!!

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your birth experience with us. I was so pleased to hear that you and your husband enjoyed the classes and it sounds like the time spent preparing really paid off. Precipitate labours are full on! Although sounds like you may have been labouring for a good few days before that, using the tools from the program to stay calm and at home. Well done!!

We also agree that there is a lot of thought and preparation that goes into birth but often what happens after is not focussed on until you are there. You will be pleased to know that we have just launched an informative & supportive Breastfeeding & Early Parenting Program that is designed to prepare future parents to have a positive 4th trimester journey. Give them the tools to navigate those sleepless nights and set them up for an empowered breastfeeding journey. Perhaps for next time?

Congrats again!

Kasey
