"Car park availability"

About: Wonthaggi Hospital / Integrated Care Centre (L.Rigby Centre)

(as the patient),

I have Chemotherapy every week at Wonthaggi Hospital and I'm an elderly person. I start my chemo at 2pm, I have to walk so far to get to the cancer Centre and there were cars everywhere. I had to park on a garden edge where I could have fallen over, it was dangerous. I can't walk that far, it's not fair. In my opinion, there were too many cars out there in the chemotherapy car park for how many people that were having treatment.

They offered to help me and move my car and when I left they walked me to my car.

Dear avocetwz58,

I am so sorry that you are having this difficulty and I agree that car parking is very difficult at the moment. We have added many carparks (well over 100) since we started on our new build, but unfortunately the testing tent has taken some of those. I have been working with Bass Coast Shire Council to see if we can find a new site for the testing tent but that will likely take a few weeks.

In the interim, I have asked our Facilities team to erect signage to show that only Chemo patients can park out the front of the ITCU. I hope someone has also shown you that there are some reserved car parks on a flat concreted area for Chemo patients near our supply shed. And of course you can park in the ambulatory care car park which is flat and very safe and go into that entry and our staff can arrange for a Porter to wheelchair you around to the ITCU.

I have asked our team to make up some maps for patients so you can see the options.

I am hoping that we have enough money left over from our building project to finish the car parking out the back near the ITCU building and I have put in for other submissions but have sadly been unsuccessful. I promise you that we are working on trying to alleviate this car parking issue and will keep working on it.

Yours in kindness,

Jan
