We attended KHC for our 6 monthly checkups for our teenager recently and walked out absolutely appalled at the way we felt we had been treated by the Dr. In our experience they were rude and arrogant, they questioned absolutely everything we said. I felt they belittled myself and my partner and made our teenager very uncomfortable. They seemed to ridicule all 3 of us and said we needed to do something about our weight - they don't know our history and, I think, obviously had not read our teenager's file or the Dr would have known that they have worked very hard to get their weight down over the last several years. As for me, I have lost over 30kg over the last 2 years and I certainly don’t need to be, nor deserve to be, spoken to the way the Dr spoke to us.
They wrote the script out incorrectly and the pharmacist had to call them for clarification. The pharmacist then called me to explain we were only getting 2 months worth of medication and I’d need to make sure we had an appointment so we did not run out of medication. As I understand it, the pharmacist was also outraged by the way they themselves had been spoken to by the Dr and actually apologised to me for the Dr's treatment - now is probably also a good time to mention the pharmacist is in Perth and I believe they felt they had to apologise for the way we were treated by a Dr in Karratha - what a joke, a nice gesture on the pharmacist's behalf but disgusting on the Dr’s behalf.
We have been on 6 monthly visits for some time now and yes, we did slightly increase the dosage of my teenager's medication but we were happy to stick with a 6-month appointment - if there were issues we would have called to see if we could get an appointment sooner but the Dr refused to give us medication for 6 months and now we have to waste valuable resources, take time off work and our teenager out of school so we can go back to get medication.
