I had a very similar experience. My parent has Multiple Myeloma - missed by their GP over & over again. 'Missed' is broad.. they were was always sent away being told 'it's your age..you will feel more tired & lethargic'.
I digress, my parent was very unwell so I rang the 24/7 Hotline, not once but 3 times over 2 days. Each & every time I was told they can't help you, and to ring back in the morning! Needless to say, ringing back in the morning was no help either.
I rang the Outpatients where my parent's Hematologist held a clinic every Tuesday, Noarlunga this time - all calls went to voicemail that said someone would call me back soon. After my 5th call leaving a message & no response I actually drove to the Hospital.
The Receptionist telling me they were busy & understaffed! What I said isn't repeatable. This isn't a hardware store..this is people's lives we are talking about. How can these people be, as I feel they are, so flippant? I was told to take my parent to the ED. If I wasn't crying I'd be laughing! My point .. what is the point of a 24/7 Hotline when, in my experience, literally nobody can help?
