My story covers almost a week in the hospital recently. I have been a resident of Derby for over 30 years. I was referred by a Derby Hospital GP to the visiting Gynaecology team from Broome for removal of a Bartholin's Cyst. This was done on a Tuesday using an epidural for anaesthetic. I went home on a Wednesday morning.
However, on a Thursday, I felt very unwell, the main symptom being vomiting. My daughter brought me into Emergency at Derby Hospital on a Friday. I returned home the next day.
Everything I have to say about this experience is positive. Throughout, there was good communication. I was listened to and felt understood and respected. The decision about anaesthetic was a joint one. I appreciated this.
When I came back in to Emergency, I felt the doctor took me seriously and immediately put in place a range of tests to check me out.
The nurses were both efficient and friendly. They make life in hospital possible and easy to cope with.
At other times I have had criticisms of some of Derby Hospital systems, but not this time. It was a very positive experience.
