I was in a relationship with someone when they left me due to my drinking problem. We both drank together almost daily although my use was heavier, I turned into an angry person and mostly not fun to be around.
I decided to get help and started reaching out for support.
I started going to a walk-in group at a different facility. I also started seeing the gp at the drs clinic there (they are very understanding), as I believe my current dr refused to see me anymore.
I went on the waiting list for the Woolloongabba day rehab program thru Lives Lived Well. The best decision I could have made. Ran from Tuesday-Friday for 3wks during mid-morning. A cbt -cognitive therapy program, covering a different topic/module each day. I believe the facilitators were well trained, professional and very supportive.
We did a check-in and check-out at the beginning and ending of each day which really helped with re-inforcing and applying the information learned. I felt this also was a great concept in that group sharing gave different insights, perspectives and experiences that I could relate to.
On completion of this program, I have maintained my sobriety. I am, at the time of writing this story, hopeful for my future due to the strategies and techniques that I have learned thru doing the program.
I highly recommend doing this, based on my experience, you won’t regret it!
