"Postnatal hypertension and baby jaundice care"

I needed to be readmitted to hospital one week after giving birth as I had (then undiagnosed) hypertension. Due to not having a negative COVID test I couldn't return to POW Private so my doctor got me admitted to the Royal Hospital for Women. 

Upon arriving there, although it was last minute and they were busy, my husband, baby and I were seen in the maternity ward. They acknowledged I would need treatment but immediately noticed that my baby's jaundice (that we had been told would improve post-hospital with good feeding, pooping and peeing - which he'd been doing, very well), was not in fact improving but had worsened. It was a traumatic night having him taken from us to be put into the NICU, especially when they called to say he'd need some oxygen support as they'd noticed something was off, but the care we received and information/support was amazing. 

That night they put him straight on the bilirubin lights/blanket, and the next day they had ENTs on the case for his oxygen and were able to relieve our worry by advising that he has a floppy larynx and would be okay. As you can imagine as first-time parents we had been distressed seeing him on oxygen/under such intense bilirubin lights, but the team was calming. informative and supportive. I was being treated in the prenatal ward and received fantastic midwifery support there, and my son's management down in the NICU was second-to-none. I think the staff there are truly legends and were so patient and kind!

If my son ever needs any care I hope we will be able to get treatment here again, we always felt like we were in the best possible hands.

The only issue was the food! In my opinion, it was completely awful unfortunately. We wound up buying from the cafeteria every single meal. It's a public hospital and funding is limited I imagine, so I didn't expect much, but honestly, to me, it was inedible...
