"Well looked after in day surgery"

About: Katanning Health Service / Operating Theatre

(as a parent/guardian),

A few days ago, my daughter was admitted to Katanning hospital for day surgery to have a tibial nail and screws removed. Unfortunately, surgery was delayed due to a part not being delivered from Albany hospital, however, the wonderful DON took time to come down and explain the delay, offer an apology and set us up for the night in a local B&B as surgery wouldn’t have finished in time for us to drive home.

By the time my daughter was taken to surgery she was extremely anxious and almost in tears. The theatre nurses were beyond amazing, (so sorry I can’t remember your names) but they were so good with her, one used her own mobile phone to play my daughter's favourite music while she waited and another took the time to show her the theatre and explain everything, really putting her mind at ease.

For a small regional hospital, I believe your service is outstanding, all the staff we dealt with from the concierge, ward nurses, theatre nurses…to the lovely gentleman that made us a cuppa were exceptional and all appeared to really enjoy their job. Also a special Thank you to Dr Sean (surgeon) and Dr Phillip (anaesthetist) for a job well done.

Dear Horse riding parent,

Thank you so much for this lovely feedback, I have shared it with the Katanning team who cared for your daughter. Unfortunately, surgeries are delayed from time to time for a number of reasons but we do our best to keep our patients and their families informed as there is nothing worse than waiting in a hospital not knowing if or when a surgery is going to happen. And we know that waiting adds to the anxiety.

It does sound like the theatre team did their best to comfort and support your daughter and this is the kind of care we aim to achieve for all our patients.

I hope your daughter continues to recover well.

Yours sincerely,

Jenny Thompson
