"Positive birth and positive caesarean programs"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Maternity Telehealth Service - WACHS Kimberley

(as a service user),

I did the 'hypnobirthing positive birth program' online. My partner and I both loved every minute of the 4 modules. It was fantastic, so well designed and presented and great online resources. We did this over 2 weekends. Following this, we did the 'hypnobirthing positive caesarean program' online the day before writing this. It was the same level of quality and well presented. However, we found much of the content to be exactly the same as what we had just covered in the positive birthing program. I believe there were many of the same pictures, slides, examples and relaxations. It would be ok to cover the same general topics that relate to both, but I really think the pictures, slides, examples and relaxation exercises should be different to the ones we have literally just done over the last 2 weeks. It just felt a bit repetitive in my opinion. Except for 1 couple, I believe everyone online had already done the positive birthing program. So I felt the content was repeated for almost everyone.

I believe solutions for this could be:

- use different pictures/examples/slides/relaxation exercises.

- or, create a short 1-2 hr alternative caesarean course, with new content only, for people who have already completed the positive birthing modules.

- or, we could join the zoom session just for the last hour or two for the new content.

Apart from this, I thought both programs were excellent, and have helped my partner and I so much with positive birth preparations. It has completely transformed our mindsets. Such a valuable course and so great that it is free so we could afford to do it. Thank you.

Thank you so much bracehm88 for taking the time to share your experience with our range of birth classes.

How fantastic that you were able to access these classes from the comfort of your own home. I hope that the knowledge and the tools that you received from the classes will help support your positive journey and I look forward to hearing from you after the birth of your baby.

I agree with you that a lot of the content is the same for the Positive Birth Program and the Positive Caesarean Program. The programs have been written under the assumption that most women will only attend one of the programs. However, we are noticing that women who are not booked for a caesarean like to come along to both programs in case they end up booked for a caesarean birth closer to their date - wonderful preparation.

Your thoughts around a short alternative caesarean course or attending just the last couple of hours are really interesting ideas. We would need to keep some of the relaxation exercises, maybe an introduction to refresh previously taught concepts, but this is worth looking at and thinking about for our 2022 program. Thank you again for your feedback and great ideas.

Warm Regards,

Kasey
