"Finding contact information"

About: Child Health Services - WACHS South West

(as a staff member),

Hi WACHS,

WACHS employee here - filling this out as a consumer - first time parent to be :)

I'm writing to inform you that I found it extremely difficult and a significant barrier to locate the contact information for the Maternity Group Practice program in Bunbury. I went down a bit of a warren hole via the internet and WACHS intranet to try and locate any information that would allow me to request information or at least email details or phone number. The only way I managed to source the contact details of the MGP was through fellow WACHS colleagues who work in Child Health and Development. I believe they too had a hard time locating the number/email etc and had to ask around. Further to this challenge, when asking fellow parents-to-be, I recall they all stated they got the number from someone who had been part of the MGP program prior.

The other area I thought was a significant issue was that our GP didn't inform us of the MGP program and how great it seemingly is. Thankfully, we managed to secure the last spot. However, my spouse and I have met new parents-to-be who missed out on what we felt is an amazing program. As you can imagine, they felt gutted to miss out on what I believe is such a highly regarded and reputable service. It would be great to have these issues resolved asap :)

Dear decemberky97,

Thank you for taking the time to raise this issue on Care Opinion. I googled "Bunbury Midwifery Group Practice" and the first "hit" was HealthyWA. This link takes you to all the MGP services within WACHS. If you choose Bunbury and scroll down the email address for the service is on the page.

I agree that it has been difficult to ensure all GPs are aware of the choices women have for their pregnancy model of care. We have provided posters and flyers to GP surgeries. I will arrange another mail out of these resources to surgeries within Bunbury. As a WACHS employee and consumer, I would be interested if you have any ideas about how to engage and ensure this group have up to date information.

We do also have the Facebook babybumps page, which contains a lot of wonderful information about maternity services across the state, and I encourage you to join and share the page with your friends.

For those people reading this feedback the email address for Bunbury MGP is WACHS-SWBunburyMGP@health.wa.gov.au. I also encourage you to phone the Bunbury Maternity department at 9722 1348 if you have any questions that we can help you with.

Thank you again for raising this issue and we will work hard to raise the community and GP awareness of this wonderful service. If you have any further ideas please feel free to give me a call on 0418 913 555, and I would love to have a chat.

Kind regards,

Katrina
