"Ward nursing staff"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / General Surgery Department & Ward 7A & Ward 7B

(as the patient),

I had been admitted for surgery recently one morning a few weeks ago. Surgery went better than expected, after 9 1/2 hours on the surgery table where I awoke in ICU, there for one day, while there very best of care and attention, once in ward 7 surgical recovery, it changed.

I was doing okay up until they removed the line for my catheter, obviously, I was still groggy and not 100 percent about my body, it was a night shift and I had awakened to find the bed sheets wet. I managed to get up out of bed and sit in the chair. When the both of them came in I could tell they were both not in the best moods, anyway, but I let them know that I was sorry I have soiled the bed.

That particular nurse and their spectacled offsider both without looking at this at all said it is not wet, and that I have not wet the bed and promptly left closing the door. so I spent all night until the day nurse came in and as soon as they spotted this they said oh you poor baby I will change this now. They went about their job and changed it in 5 mins.

I will not lay in a soiled bed because your night shift nurse is or in my opinion, hates their job.

Dear lyragn65,

Thank you for your lovely compliment regarding your experience with surgery and in ICU.

However, I was very saddened to read of your experience whilst on Ward 7, and cannot apologise enough that you spent the night in a chair rather than lay in wet sheets. That sort of treatment is completely unacceptable, and not at all reflective of the standard of care I expect of all of our staff across the Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group.

I have alerted the Ward Manager of your complaint who will address the issue as best they can, considering Care Opinion is anonymous.

If you would like a more formal complaint logged and investigation to be completed, please contact our Patient and Family Liaison Service (6152 4013), Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 4.30pm, who will be more than happy to assist you. I do encourage you to contact Patient and Family Liaison as we would like the opportunity to complete a full investigation into what happened.

Once again, I am very sorry that you experienced what you did.

I do hope that the rest of your recovery is going well.

Kind regards,

Neil Doverty,

Group Executive Director

Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group.
