"Dismissed with no communication"

About: Box Hill Hospital / Upton House

(as a carer),

My spouse became uncommunicative and anxious at home, after getting through the CET team, I got them to voluntarily take the ambulance to Box Hill emergency, At Box Hill I convinced them to leave the ambulance and go to their bed.

I recall after around a few hours waiting voluntarily for a bed, I was given an assessment order for my spouse and then, after a further wait, walked to Upton House by security.

Once there, I recall the door was opened and the emergency department nurse told me to say goodbye to my spouse, by then I felt I was asked to leave.

It seemed to me no staff from Upton talked to me. I feel I have tricked my spouse into being forced into what I believe is a dysfunctional system.

Dear octoberfk69,

Thank you for taking the time to share you experience at Box Hill Emergency Department and Upton House on Care Opinion. I am sorry that your experience was not positive and you were left feeling the way that you were. This is not the experience that we want patients, families or their carers to have.

I would like to invite you to make contact with the Patient Relations Advisors in the Eastern Health Centre for Patient Experience so we have the opportunity to understand about your particular circumstances. You can make contact by either calling 1800 EASTERN or emailing feedback@easternhealth.org.au. If you choose to call please be aware that it is possible that the Patient Relations Advisors may be on another call at the time you ring and if so you will be invited to leave a message so they can return your call.

My apologies again and I hope we hear from you soon.

Kind regards,

Sarah
