"Staff patience with my elderly parent"

About: Busselton Health Campus / General Ward

(as a relative),

During the night my parent asked nursing staff to go to the toilet and has to be assisted with oxygen.

My parent advised me that the nurses got very impatient with them and told my parent that they have already been so many times. When the nurse took my parent to bed they just plonked my parent on the bed not really assisting them. My parent got upset and said that this is the staff member's job.

The patient in the bed next to my parent told me that they heard it and, I recall, said it was inappropriate and rude. The other patient advised there were 2 nurses at that time and it was one of them.

My parent is in their 90s and their body will soon start shutting down. I know that it may be inconvenient but I believe compassion should be given. My parent is the most selfless person and does not like to cause any trouble so I feel for them to tell me this, it is not ok to be treated like this.

I was telling the Dr prior to this what wonderful staff are at this hospital.

Regards, zuluxg84.

Dear zuluxg84,

I am very sorry to have read of your parents experience on Care Opinion. What you have described is not OK and I hope to be able to explore this further with you. I'd be happy to take a call on 9753 6372 to discuss and investigate. If you prefer our Consumer Liaison team are also available on WACHS-SWFOI@health.wa.gov.au.

Yours sincerely, Dan
