I attended The Royal Melbourne Hospital Emergency Department recently after an impact injury to my knee the day before. The knee was stiff, painful and unstable, with a limited range of movement.
After a 2hour wait, the knee was x-rayed. 90 minutes later I was seen by a doctor who looked at my knee, and advised that the x-ray didn’t show any broken bones. When I asked about ligament damage, they told me to go to my GP for a referral for an MRI.
After waiting three and a half hours all I know is what isn’t causing my pain and limited mobility. I still have to see my GP whenever they are available, get a referral, get an MRI, and get another appointment with my GP to find out what is causing it.
I went to RMH seeking help because I believed my situation was urgent and couldn’t wait for my GP. I felt I received incomplete care which was a waste of my time and, in my opinion, of RMH resources.
