"COVID-19 Test"

About: Kalgoorlie Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I went to the Kalgoorlie hospital to get a COVID-19 test recently at around 11:30am. I felt my friend and I were treated disrespectfully by the reception staff when I requested to receive a COVID test and that they made us feel as though we were doing the wrong thing and also seemed to assume we must already have COVID.

I felt they treated us as though it was our own fault if we did have COVID, despite me following the rules and checking in at every venue I have been at. As I understand it, this means that I would have already been contacted if I was a close contact of a person with a confirmed case of COVID-19.

In addition, I was not asked when my symptoms began and whether I was vaccinated, and nobody took my temperature. I was very disappointed with my experience this morning, which contrasted starkly with my experience in other hospitals I have been tested at previously.

Dear phoenixbq54,

Thank you for sharing your recent experience presenting to Kalgoorlie Health Campus for COVID-19 testing. I apologise that you and your friend felt disrespected by our reception staff whilst you were being diligent and presenting for COVID-19 testing. Given that Care Opinion is a platform where consumers can share their stories anonymously I do not have the information required to review your presentation to the Emergency Department (ED) to be able to comment on anything specific to your story.

Kalgoorlie Health Campus is required to undertake both Symptomatic and Asymptomatic swabs of possible COVID-19 presentations. It is concerning to read that nobody discussed your symptoms with you upon your presentation to the ED, I can assure you that we treat COVID-19 seriously and I hope that in future if you need to present to the Kalgoorlie Hospital ED for COVID-19 testing you are met with a more positive experience and that the information you receive is accurate and correct.

If you require information about new COVID-19 exposure sites you are able to find this information listed on the Healthy WA website.

I appreciate that you have taken the time and effort to let us know about your experience, It is important that we receive feedback from our clients to enable continued improvements to our services and in turn improve our patient experiences. On behalf of myself and the Kalgoorlie Health Campus Emergency Department, I sincerely apologise for your experience of our service. If you would like to discuss this matter further please contact Scott Jones, Operations Manager of Kalgoorlie Health Campus on 9080 5817 or via email at Scott.Jones2@health.wa.gov.au, Scott would welcome hearing from you.

Kind regards

Peter Tredinnick
