"Indebted to those who saved my Husband's life"

About: Royal Perth Hospital / Coronary Care Unit (CCU) Ward 4F Royal Perth Hospital / Emergency Department St John Ambulance WA

(as other),

A few weeks ago, a normal Wednesday visit to the Mall changed our lives forever. What are the chances that a team of Paramedics were on their break at the Mall and passed that Barber shop. Husband sat to have haircut and I went for coffee. 30mins later I made my way back. As I approached the Barber shop I noticed people standing outside and as I walked in, I saw my husband on the floor being given CPR by Paramedics. Shock, fear, panic and uncontrollable crying/shaking as I asked if he was ok and was assisted by the Barber, Police and Paramedics to calm my panic. I passed on his details. I believe my husband died a second time and they did CPR and shocked him back.

In the space of 30 mins the Paramedics saved his life and the Police were supportive as were the Mall Manageress and her team. We owe his life to all of them. I believe if that team had not been there, he would not be here at home recovering with a Defibrillator in his chest. The second ambulance arrived promptly and we were taken to Royal Perth Hospital. Emergency and continued care in the CCU ward was exemplary. Already home and recovering by the next Friday. Forever in debt to so many people. Thank you is not enough. In awe of the team work of all concerned legends. Forever indebted to you all.

Dear venusbn87,

Thank you for sharing your story and taking the time to recognise those health care and other professionals who provided life-saving treatment to your Husband. Your Husband’s health emergency must have been terrifying for you and I am so glad to hear you were also well supported while your Husband received care.

I too marvel at the exceptional abilities of health staff to respond to every new situation, maintaining clinical excellence and compassion as they face unexpected challenges day after day.

How wonderful to hear that your husband is now at home recovering from this event. On behalf of Emergency Department and CCU staff, your kind words are very much appreciated. I am grateful you have taken the time to share your experience and gratitude for the staff in Emergency and CCU, who I know will be greatly encouraged by your heart-felt words.

Please accept my warmest wishes to both you and your husband for a healthy future.

Kind regards,

Dr Lesley Bennett
