"I almost died"

About: Albany Health Campus / Surgical Ward

(as the patient),

Hi, I had surgery at Albany hospital recently. I had a cyst removed on my butt cheek. I did my first wee after my surgery and got the dressing wet. I recall the nurse refused to change it as I told them I accidentally peed on it and it was bleeding. I believe they told me no, because they were to do it in the morning, it seemed to me the nurse let me sleep in my own urine.

Next day, a nurse came in and asked my allergies, I read them out. 1 of them being onion (anaphylactic). I recall the nurse said yep no worries, left the nurse bell on the floor and served me my food, and walked off, I took a bite and instantly felt an anaphylactic fit coming on, I couldn’t breathe, lucky my partner walked in when they did because it seemed I was having a seizure on the bed, and they screamed for help. No one was around but lucky they all came running out of nowhere. If my partner didn’t walk in when they did, I believe I would have died. They jabbed my EpiPen in, put me on oxygen, and kept me a bit longer.

Lucky for my partner, or I believe I would have died that day and they wouldn’t have known till it was too late. I feel a mistake like this shouldn’t happen in a hospital…..I believe you’re meant to feel safe there.

Thanks for reading!
