"Journey through addiction"

About: Lives Lived Well – Nowra (Nana Muru)

(as a service user),

I started using ice (methamphetamine) about 8 years ago when I was in my early 20’s. I have struggled to cope after raising my brother and sister and then family services got involved. Ice started as a way to numb the pain of my struggles and soon became an addiction. A couple years later, I started to reach out to services for help.

I've been coming to the Nana Muru groups for the last 12 months. I like coming to the program to meet other people, doing art for therapy, mindfulness and learning about my addiction. They come and pick me up and without the transport I wouldn't be able to attend group. The facilitators help me to learn about my addiction and make positive changes. After completing the program I attended the weekly Aftercare Group. I still struggle with my addiction but I am learning to make better choices in my life.

Dear wasn't_me1,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Nana Muru. It is so good to hear that barriers like no transport are taken care of, and staff assist you by collecting and delivering you home so you can attend services.

I am pleased that you reached out - and have been able to enjoy art therapy, and learn techniques to deal with your dependence and your past trauma.

Keep up the good work and always reach out if you need support. At Lives Lived Well we believe 'with the right support, people can change'.

Kind regards,

Lara
