"Botox injection in the hospital"

About: Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital / Outpatient Department (Eyes & General)

(as the patient),

Recently I had an appointment at the Sydney Eye Hospital in the afternoon for Botox injection. After what I felt was a reasonable waiting time, a doctor did the injection of the Botox for me.

Unlike any of the previous injections I had in the same hospital, or even by the same team, the doctor did only 7-8 times pricks on my face without feeling any of the Botox being pushed in. The injection area was also totally different from the previous. The main problem was that the doctor did not seem to push the Botox into the skin around my eyes. I saw more than half of the Botox still left in the bottle. The doctor didn’t ask me any questions and I felt was rushed to finish the injection.

Usually my eyes will be much more comfortable after the injection of the Botox, especially in the first week. But this time, I didn’t feel any effect or improvement, which to me, proved that the Botox was not injected into the area surrounding my eyes.

I have been suffering blepharospasm for many years, and I visit the Sydney Eye Hospital once every three months for Botox injection. The other doctors always did the injection slowly with extreme care and I could feel the Botox was injected into my face.

This is the first time I had such bad experiences. I wish the hospital authorities investigate why this could happen and hopefully my bad experience doesn’t happen to other patients.

Botox is not easy to get and very expensive, the doctor should know not to waste as I feel they did.

Dear homamxy67,

Thank you for sharing your treatment experience.

I am sorry that your most recent treatment was poor and not in line with your previous good experiences at the clinic.

I would like to further investigate your story for follow up with the appropriate team and would appreciate if you could contact me through SESLHD-SSEHExecutiveServices@health.nsw.gov.au.

Kind Regards,

Dr Pauline Rumma

Director of Clinical Services
