"Doors for emergency"

About: Kalgoorlie Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as a friend),

I had to take a friend to imaging recently, they had severe breathing issues and was told to go to the other door from emergency. We have had this problem before and had to ring admin, we were told those on the door could use their discretion. Kalgoorlie Hospital, why don't you make the doors for Emergency for those going to Imaging as well and let all others go to the other door. I have come across several people who have had health issues being told to use the other door. I believe visitors and other departments have to go down that way so why not make it easier for those going to X Ray.

Dear statusfy39,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience attending the Kalgoorlie Health Campus. I apologise for any confusion and inconvenience the requirement to use an alternate entrance to the Medical Imaging Department caused you and your friend.

Prior to COVID, access to the Medical Imaging Department could be gained via the Emergency Department (ED) entry doors. To protect our community members and staff from COVID, WA Country Health Service (WACHS) implemented a number of operational protocols. One of those protocols is to limit access to the area to those seeking emergency assistance, this decreases the number of people queuing for entry to the ED thus reducing the possibility of exposure to COVID positive cases.

I trust that the information I have provided addresses your concerns. If you would like to discuss the matter further please contact Alicia Michalanney, Director of the Kalgoorlie Health Campus on 9080 5817 or via email Alicia.Michalanney@health.wa.gov.au.

Thank you again for you feedback, for this gives us information to help us to continually improve our patient experience of our service.

Kind regards

Peter Tredinnick
