"Large gap fees"

Dear Prince of Wales Private Hospital,

I would like to make a complaint about the gap fee I was charged by Laverty for my surgery at Prince of Wales Private Hospital.

I had a small hysteroscopy procedure at Prince of Wales Private Hospital late last year. I have Medibank private health insurance, and I believe Medibank is supposed to have a no gap agreement with Prince of Wales Private Hospital.

I don’t understand why Prince of Wales Private Hospital sent my pathology to Laverty instead of another provider when it seems Laverty charge customers such large gap fees. I have never been charged a gap fee for pathology for surgery (for the same surgery and much larger surgeries than a hysteroscopy) at St Vincent’s Hospital, Mater or East Sydney Private Hospital.

Based on my experience, please stop Laverty price gouging hospital patients, and select another provider or give patients the option to select another provider that will not charge them large gap fees. I feel you should be letting patients know in advance about Laverty’s large gap fees.
