"Food fillers"

About: Logan Lodge

(as a service user),

Recently I recieved an evening meal that consisted of nice vegetables and stew that had small amount of beef and an excessive amount of pearl barley fillers, of an amount that I felt was uneatable.

I realise that cooks are on a budget, but I pay around $86.03 per day and it seems I have invested $500,000 with Logan Lodge in excess to my daily fee. I feel I should receive good food with not so many fillers that are used excessively, eg used are pearl barley, tapioca, rice and bread puddings.

Yours sincerely.

Dear foxtrotse79,

I am very sorry that you haven't enjoyed your meal recently, your feedback is very important for our food services team.

The dish that you mention may be our Irish stew. Within the recipe, it does contain lamb and also barley and vegetables.

Our Food Services Manager will review this recipe and ensure that our Chefs are correctly following the recipe so as to avoid incorrect amounts of ingredients - in this case, the amount of barley included in the Irish stew.

Our recipes are developed in conjunction with our Dietitians, so your feedback with regard to excessive 'fillers' will also be discussed at our upcoming Food and Nutrition meeting.

Our Chefs are always welcoming of feedback and comments from our consumers so as to ensure that they provide the very best menu options that meet our consumer requirements and preferences.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact us and provide your comments.

Kim

Dear foxtrotse79,

I would like to thank you for taking the time to write about what happened to you while you have been in Logan Lodge. As Kim has explained, our meals are very carefully prepared with nutrition standards, texture and allergies all in mind.

Since your story has been posted the Kitchen staff have reviewed this recipe, and the process for preparing the meal, and have evaluated the "look" of the barley (which swells with cooking) in comparison to the amount of meat in the recipe. All the chefs on the team have been part of this discussion and will continue to monitor the dining experience of this meal, that the correct quantities are used for the ingredients and that the patients'/consumers' perception of what they ordered and what was presented is matching up.

Again, thank you for your feedback. We value your input to our menu and to the whole dining experience for your home, and everyone who lives there.

Kind Regards,

Chloe

Acting Chief Executive Officer
