"Consistency of support from the midwifery group program"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Community Midwifery Program King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternal Fetal Assessment Unit King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

We went through the MGP at KEMH for both of our daughters' pregnancies and births (2019 and 2021). Based on our experiences, the midwives are thoughtful, thorough and always available to answer any questions or concerns.

I had restricted growth with my first pregnancy and was closely monitored before eventually being induced at 38weeks with reduced movements. For my second pregnancy they booked additional scans as a precaution to closely monitor the growth throughout the pregnancy. Ultimately we were induced at 37weeks with both restricted growth and reduced movement.

I spent time in the fetal assessment unit being monitored and always felt well cared for. The time taken to discuss any concerns I had and investigate any concerns which came up during monitoring/testing gave me peace of mind.

At every stage of my pregnancy I felt supported, encouraged to call when I had concerns and never belittled or ridiculed for having concerns (whether they were warranted or not). Having the same midwife to speak to meant she knew my history and knew what needed to be investigated immediately versus what could wait.

Following the birth of my girls, I found the midwives were invaluable in getting my first daughter breastfeeding. For 5 days they provided support, encouragement and advice while we tried tirelessly to get my daughter to latch correctly.

Based on the two positive experiences we had, we recommend MGP and KEMH to all of our friends and family.
