"Health promotion"

About: Early Intervention (Alpine Health)

(as a volunteer/advocate),

I’d like to say thank you to Maureen, Health Promotion Officer, Alpine Health for her work in promoting health goals through community programs in collaboration with other health professionals.

In late 2020 I joined a Pole Walking class in Bright, run jointly by Maureen and Leeah, an accredited Exercise Physiologist. I enjoyed learning about pole walking and found it to be a beneficial activity so I approached Maureen and Leeah to ask if they would assist in providing an introductory class for our U3A in Mount Beauty. They were only too happy to support the initiative and early last year they ran a learning session for us which in turn, enabled me to lead the pole walking group on a weekly basis.

In late 2021 I noticed on Facebook that another outdoor activity was being promoted by Active Alpine, to encourage people to use the new outdoor fitness stations that had been installed in Mount Beauty and in Tawonga. I contacted Maureen and asked for the flyer, as this was something worth talking about on the local community radio station and generally making it known that here was another opportunity for our community to get out and get active. I joined the sessions, also jointly run by Maureen and Leeah, and once again found them to be very enjoyable. I also learned that behind the scenes, Maureen has amazing organisational skills and is able to effectively deliver programs across a wide range of health activities.

I have met Maureen at various community events over the past few years, including resilience workshops since the summer bushfires. Maureen is an energetic, bright and friendly person and it seems everyone warms to her. Her passion, professionalism and knowledge of health and wellbeing make her a role model for health promotion. Her connections into community organisations and healthcare workers enable programs like those described to be well received in the community achieving awareness and good attendance.
