"Follow up to the people that assist"

About: Busselton Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as a friend),

I took my boss to hospital because they were displaying symptoms of heart attack or stroke and knowing time is of the essence and that they were conscious and alert I drove them to the Busselton Health Campus Emergency and parked right out side in the emergency lane where the tents are set up out side the door.

I apologised to everyone there for interrupting and (panic stricken) I explained that I had my boss in my car that appeared to be having a stroke or heart attack and that I needed help to get them out of my car as they are much larger than I am. I recall the nearest nurse simply pointed to the wheelchairs and kept walking away from me. I asked if anyone could please help me and I got no response.

I immediately grabbed a wheelchair and took it to my car to get my boss out of the vehicle. I don't know how I did it but I did manage to get them out of the car and kind of dumped them into the wheelchair. I was very panicked at this stage and could not find the brakes for the wheel chair and was struggling to get their feet in the wheelchair foot rest thingies.

My boss’s partner then arrived and started wheeling the chair backwards when a nurse arrived. I asked if they needed me for anything more and was waved away...

I left the hospital and went back to work. Later in the day I started to feel pain in my back from lifting my boss out of my car and into the chair and I felt I had been experiencing some PTSD from the whole experience.

Disappointing to see that no one from the public or the hospital assisted me and there is no follow up to the people that assist in emergency situations as, based on my experience, the shock of what happens can potentially have longer effects.

Dear cyngnusty85,

I thought I would reach out again as I've not heard from you yet. I also wanted to let you know that I have shared your feedback with our concierge team at the hospital and reminded them all of the importance of keeping an eye out for people who may need assistance in coming into the ED.

I hope that you are doing ok and that your boss has now recovered.

I really do welcome hearing from you, even if it's just to make sure that you are doing ok. My phone number again is 9753 6061.

Yours sincerely,

Caroline Booker
