"Negligence over ignorance"

About: Margaret River Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

My child had a car accident in Margaret River - no visible injuries but blurred vision, neck pain, nausea. As an ex nurse practitioner, I urged them to go to ER to request an examination and x-rays to be certain there was nothing insidious going on. I have seen enough invisible traumas in my career to not risk it.

They were so busy playing what I felt was field hospital outside, with a staff member at the fore preventing admission without proof of vaccination or a face mask, while my child was standing there pleading to be seen, barely able to stand up. The person appeared to be a non-medical expert but had the task of approving or not, whether someone is sick or injured enough to be allowed admission?

Thankfully we had strong analgesia at home and could access acupuncture therapy but none of this has x-ray vision, nor able to determine whether there is structural or other internal trauma. My child is in agony, the only 'treatment' available in 2022 for trauma or even possible fracture is an analgesic?

Dear timeformedicalreform,

I have shared your feedback with our staff.

We have gone through our COVID check in protocols and reiterated to our concierge staff, that people presenting to ED for treatment, are screened as per protocol, unless life threatening, and are only to be triaged by the triage nurse.

Thank you once again for sharing your story. I would still be happy to hear from you if there is anything else you think we can do to improve our service.

Kind regards,

Sandy Znidarsich
