"Poor surgery aftercare"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Surgical Ward

(as the patient),

Less than six hours after surgery, it seemed a specific clinician was more interested in looking at houses on a real estate website than actually providing care.

Some examples include:

* Unprofessional comments regarding surgery results

* Refusal to assist with bedding while it was hard for me to move around

* Poor pain management

* Argumentative comments on anything discussed

This is very unfortunate as I had received wonderful care from every other medical professional involved (all the way from doctors & nurses to facility staff).

While my aftercare was not life threatening, based on this experience, I would be very concerned if this nurse was to ever be in charge of caring for a loved one.

Good morning cruxkr66,

Thank you for supplying consumer feedback in regards to your recent stay with us on the surgical ward at Bunbury Hospital. At all times we aim to give quality service to our customers and I am pleased that in the most instance this was delivered by the team of health care professionals you have mentioned. In the adverse event you have mentioned I would very much welcome to speak to you in person, or for you to email me the details, in order that I can address this issue with ongoing staff training and mentoring, and speak with the staff member directly.

You can contact me on the surgical ward via our hospital switchboard or via email on Jennifer.obyrne@health.wa.gov.au.

I hope that your health is continuing to improve post-discharge and I look forward to speaking with you soon.

Kind regards,

Jennifer (Jenny) O'Byrne

Dear cruxkr66,

It is a number of weeks since I last responded to your care opinion response in regards to aspects of care on our Surgical Ward which you felt were not of sufficient quality. As yet, I have not been able to give you a fuller response as you have yet to contact me directly via my work email, which was supplied.

I hope that you have recovered fully and I would like to reassure you that at Bunbury Hospital and on Surgical Ward, in particular, we strive to listen to, work with and maintain collaborative relationships with all of our consumers. Do let us know if, at anytime, you would still like the chance to discuss with me your experiences at Bunbury Hospital.

kind regards,

Jennifer (Jenny) O'Byrne
