My sibling is in Killara Aged Care at Sutherland Hospital, they have been there for over 5 weeks at the time of writing this, I can speak to them on the phone and have visited them.
In my opinion, this is a horrible terrible place, how could anyone call this aged care! It seems the patients just walk from one side of the room, there is only one room they can go to, all the bedrooms have open entry so anyone can just walk in and take anything (which of course they do not have any items of their own). My sibling was in another nursing home when it was sold to the new Owners. They said my sibling was aggressive. We had them assessed, they said my sibling should be on medication, which they started to take for two weeks, the recommendation was that "they will get the best results after four weeks" but the nursing home I believe, sent my sibling to Killara Sutherland Hospital after only two weeks on the medication, not giving them a chance to stay.
When I ring my sibling they are always giving me information on their life with me and the family, asks how my children are going in their jobs, even said "I have no idea why I'm here with all these loony people who have dementia, I'm really good and need to get out of here".
My sibling needs to be assessed again now that the medication has helped them settle down. They never had a chance in the other nursing home, they were there only 9 months and I believe they changed their room four times. My sibling was confused as they thought they were still in their own home and other people were standing in front of their TV.
Based on my experience, if they call themselves aged care, where is the care when they get confused, just chuck them out. Do not get old.
