Mid-afternoon on a recent weekend, I presented to the Emergency Department at Rockingham Hospital with a flesh wound to my right knee from a snorkelling accident. The staff were exceptional in their care for me.
Jane, the Triage Nurse, was efficient in processing me and ensuring I knew what to expect.
Tanya, the Nurse Practitioner who tended to my wounds, went above and beyond to ensure my comfort. She provided me with a robe and blanket so I could change out of my wet swimsuit, was attentive to my pain management needs, explained in depth what she was doing when I showed interest while she stitched me up, prioritised obtaining my medication in advance to minimise my wait time and ensure she could monitor me personally for a potential adverse reaction, and I believe her hand hygiene was faultless.
Jo, the Assessment Officer at the front desk, was also very kind and empathetic, and didn't hesitate to call my next of kin to collect me when I asked as I didn't have my mobile phone on me.
I would like to recognise all three of these women for their professionalism under such pressure and commitment to the SMHS values of care and excellence. I felt safe, respected, and cared for. Thank you.
