"ED waiting time for young child"

(as a parent/guardian),

At the time of writing this story, my very young child has currently been sitting in Geelong hospital Ed for almost 9 hours. When asked many times when a doctor will be available we get the same answer that is soon.

My child has been having a bark like cough the whole time and staff seem to be happy to sit and talk while children who are exposed more sit and wait.

I believe they have a different area for children for a reason. Only to be told. They have one doctor running peds and fast track what the heck Geelong hospital. Surely this can't be the case. The only public hospital in Geelong and not enough ED doctors this is, in my opinion, beyond disgust. It seems children have to sit in a small room with other children sick, I think you need to get your act together.

I would like to apologise for the wait you and your child experienced. Barwon Health ED, like many Victorian health services, continues to experience workforce shortages, and we are working hard to improve this, so we can provide more timely care.

We are also exploring how we can improve the experience of children waiting for care in our Emergency Department, while continuing to plan our dedicated Children’s Emergency Department, which we hope will improve the experience of patients and families seeking emergency care in our region.
