At 24 following a shift in SGH theatres with abdo pain, I ended up in ED in front of Dr Arnab and a social worker asking me 'if something had happened'. Dr Rahul, a register at the time, called me the next day and told me that RPA were not going to let me go and he knew people that could help me.
Turns out Rahul was right - after 6 years, i have been discharged from the pelvic pain RHW team 3 months before my 30th birthday. Donna & Jason took me into their care as a victim and discharge me as a survivor with a future ahead that I never thought possible. These people have held my hands while i cried, showed inhuman patience for every physical exam and unsolicited phone calls to see how I was going between appointments - and that's what got me here, standing at the cusp of living the rest of my life.
I don't have a single story because the humility these teams showed me as i grew not only as a patient but into an independent adult was relentless, turning a scary place into a safe one and a half life into one worth living.
To Rahul, Jason & Donna - keep up the good work, you'll never know how much it means.
