"Follow up colonoscopy"

About: Bright Hospital / Day Surgery

(as the patient),

I attended Bright Hospital recently to have a 3 year follow up colonoscopy. I was required to attend the hospital prior to my procedure and must say I was a bit concerned with the overall appearance of the hospital which I had never attended previously. It looked old & tired, gardens needed attention and appearance was a bit shabby, in my opinion. On the morning of the procedure I was directed to a waiting area that also looked rather depressing. However, once I was taken into the pre-op area I was pleasantly surprised. The lovely nursing staff were very professional, paid attention to detail, took me to a lovely clean pre-op bed and area - overall excellent and I felt quite confident. Event with doctor & anaesthetist - all good.

A problem has subsequently occurred which may or may not be related to my stay. Two days after procedure I have developed a painful leg. As I had been taking things quietly my local doctor thought the damage might have occurred by positioning me on the operating table. Seems like an overstretch of my lower hamstring muscle area and was still painful a week later. It started as a dull ache along the back of my leg. I only mention this to make staff aware that this could possibly happen? Overall I was very happy with my care at Alpine Health and wouldn't hesitate to go there again. Good luck with funding for a new hospital.

Tigerjp35, thank you for taking the time to provide Alpine Health with feedback. It is great to hear that you found all staff caring. Unfortunately as a result of the recent rain events it has been difficult to maintain the gardens, with the forecasted changes in weather this should result in better maintenance of the grounds.

We hope that your leg is recovering, we would like to know more about the issue with the leg so that we can follow up with the team if there were position changes that needed as that may have contributed to this occurring. All staff in the operating rooms are aware of the care that needs to be taken when moving people during a procedure.

If you would like to discuss the leg concerns in more detail please contact Alpine Health on my direct line 03 5755 0131.

Tanya
