"My transgender child was treated with respect"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Bunbury Paediatric Ward Bunbury Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

Recently, my child was discharged from hospital after a three night stay. We presented at emergency and were admitted from there. My child is transgender and nonbinary so anything involving new people and bureaucracy sets off our alarm bells, some people are not accepting. But my child's nurse, and multiple people on their care team, took me aside to ask me to clarify their chosen name and pronouns so that they could get it right. This was a huge relief and made my child feel respected and heard.

Dear warmgw94,

Thank you for taking the time to write your feedback in regards to your child's stay on the Paediatric ward at Bunbury Regional Hospital.

Our team work very hard to provide the best, holistic nursing care possible as well as acknowledging the individual needs of the child and their family. We are an extremely caring team that that aim for person centred care and I am pleased to hear your child's experience was very positive!

Once again thank you and I wish your child all the best in their recovery.

Kind Regards

Tania Murphy
