"Young people and mental health community care Townsville"

About: Townsville Hospital and Health Service

(as a parent/guardian),

My adult child recently experienced an admission following an acute paranoid psychotic episode. On discharge (on a DTO) they were put in the care of the Young Persons Early Intervention Team.

Without exception, the Consultant Jane, the other doctors, the awesome liaison staff/case workers and the nurses were all fantastic!

Prior to this admission (they had one previously) I rang for help when things started to go wrong. When I explained what was happening they were there straight away. Unfortunately things got worse before my child could be admitted to hospital but that was not the team's fault - my child suddenly and quietly took off and went walk about.

The ongoing care and support has been excellent and much needed. Getting your life back on track after something like this takes a very long time. Months down the line we are not there yet and won't be for a while, but would be nowhere near where we are today without the support of this fantastic team.

Dear the good the bad and the ugly,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story about your adult child’s and your recent experience with our Young Persons Early Intervention Team.

It must be a very stressful and upsetting time for you when things are going wrong for your child. Having such a caring and hardworking team at the end of the phone for you must have bought you some comfort in time of great need.

Please know that I will deliver your message to Jane and all the staff in this great team including the Director of Mental Health Services.

Thank you again the good the bad and the ugly, for sharing your story and I wish you and your adult child a future of comfort knowing that you’re not alone while you seek a life of wellness.

With warm regards,

Julie Shepherd
